| The viscosity of the ink has to be just right when applied to the plate or it will not print correctly when the impression is transferred to the paper. All pigments are different, thus all inks will be different. All plates take ink differently and the ink must be adjusted to conform to the plate's sensitivity so as to convey the impression to the paper.Below, the dark red ink for the etching, San Teodoro, is shown being mixed with any of several different elements (oil, or dryer, or extender, etc.), to be worked to the printer's satisfaction before being applied to the plate.
